Introduction to SIE

The School of International Education (SIE) at Hangzhou Dianzi University(HDU)began preparations for its establishment in 2009 and was formally established in June 2012. SIE is the window of HDU to promote international education and teaching Chinese as a foreign Language. It is also a training centre for international students and cross-cultural talents. The functions of SIE are to be in the fields of international student enrollment, student management and teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Since its international student education program started in 1996, some of the international students from more than a dozen countries such as Norway, Sweden, Austria and Spain have come to HDU to attend the program.

Currently, SIE offers learners different levels of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and some traditional Chinese culture programs as well, such as kung fu, tai chi, calligraphy, cooking, tea ceremony and local opera. With the help of the resources of HDU, SIE also offers international programs in collaboration with other academic schools. Therefore, international students can apply for their bachelor, master or doctor degrees in the 18 academic schools at HDU such as the School of Management, Accounting, Finance, Telecommunications, Electronic Information, Automation.etc.

SIE’s motto is  Integration of the East and West, Cutivation for the Future. The school is striving to help international students involved into campus life and have a thorough understanding of the Chinese and Western cultures by organizing activities:  “International Students Cultural Festival”, "1+1Language Exchange Partner” program and “Chinese Family Day” . SIE is making efforts to cultivate future-oriented and interdisciplinary students with international background.
